Paying ATM fees to withdraw cash in other countries can add up when you are doing a lot of traveling. It’s no surprise that I hate to pay for this convenience, especially when I can get the same exact service for free.
If you don’t already have the Charles Schwab Checking Account, get one now. Charles Schwab is an online bank; there are no Charles Schwab branded ATMs, so they reimburse you for any ATM fees you acquire at the end of the month. It doesn’t matter where you withdraw the money from, the bank still reimburses you.
To get this account, follow this link: http://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/banking_lending/checking_account
You’re applying for the Charles Schwab High Yield Investor Checking Account. You cannot just get a Checking Account; you’ll have to apply for a brokerage account as well. This does require a credit check, so you will need good credit to get this. Click on “Apply” when you are ready. It is a lengthy process to apply and will take about 10 minutes.
I would do a step-by-step tutorial, but I feel like the application process is so easy, it’s not necessary. The Charles Schwab site also has an online chat feature, which I’ve used and is extremely helpful. Their customer service is top notch.
If you are doing any traveling at all, this definitely is a card that you should have if you want to avoid getting slammed with fees.
