Best rate guarantees (BRGs) are my favorite way to get free hotel nights mainly because BRGs are not exclusive to people with good credit.  Anyone with patience and a little luck can cash in on free rooms with BRGs.

IHG owns hotels like Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, and Intercontinental. According to IHG’s terms and conditions, if you find a lower price from a third party website, you’ll get the first night free.

Here is what you need to know:

  • Search IHG and make sure the “Rate Preference” is set at “Best Available”

  • After you find what IHG hotel room you want to stay at an when, search Hotels Combined (or your favorite search aggregator) for a cheaper price
    • Be sure all of the following match, or you will be denied:
      • Room type (same number and type of beds)
      • Dates and length of stay
      • Rate restrictions (always book non-refundable)
      • View (like “City View”)
      • Number of guests
      • Currency:  the room must be paid for in the currency of the hotel
    • The rate must be lower than IHG by at least 1% or $1 (or the equivalent in the hotel’s currency)
  • If you find a cheaper rate:
    • 1.  Make the booking the directly at IHG
    • 2.  Submit an online claim form within 24 hours of making the booking

If your claim is valid, your first night will be free.

  • “Members of the same household” cannot make multiple claims for 2 or more nights in the same 14 day period at the same IHG hotel or at different IHG hotels within 50 miles (assessed by Google Maps) of each other

Even though Travis and I are married, our “addresses” are different, which allows us to book two nights consecutively.  That makes for a very inexpensive weekend holiday!  Good luck with the search!
